Statement from Family Planning Advocates of NYS President & CEO M. Tracey Brooks on Senate Minority’s Reproductive Rights and Justice Week Resolution

(ALBANY NY Jan. 19, 2012) In 1970, wise members of the New York State Legislature, both Democratic and Republican, lead the nation in ensuring that the full range of women’s reproductive health care was safe, legal, and accessible. It was not until January 22, 1973 that the rest of nation’s women were no longer banished to back allies for any of their health care.

We thank the Senate minority for their efforts to put a spotlight on the importance of legalizing abortion care for all women through Roe v. Wade, the final piece of the puzzle for women’s comprehensive health care.
