Policy Issues
Family Planning Advocates of New York State works to fight for progressive public policies that protect and expand access to a full range of reproductive health care services, including abortion care, that respect cultural diversity and every individual’s privacy and dignity.
With full-time, year round headquarters in Albany, FPA actively engages in policy analysis, legislative work, coalition building and educational efforts. Our Governmental Affairs staff serves as the voice for New York’s Planned Parenthood affiliates and other family planning centers at the state Capitol. We work with the legislature and government agencies to promote access to reproductive health services and to guide member organizations through the uncertainties of a rapidly changing health care environment.
FPA’s active voice in Washington, DC has proved equally important. Most recently, our advocacy — involving thousands of pro-choice activist volunteers and other supporters — helped in the fight to pass the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, or health care reform, and in fending off attacks on federal funding for women’s health care services.
